“Moses Hindoian, my grandfather, was one of the first Armenians to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized in 1893, while living in Turkey. He had a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. The prophet Lehi explained in the Book of Mormon that when he had eaten the fruit of the tree of life, “It filled [his] soul with exceedingly great joy’ (1 Nephi 8:12). Lehi desired to share the fruit with his family. He wanted them to feel the same joy that he felt. In the same way, my grandfather made sure that his descendants understood the reality of the rod of iron and the eternal significance of the fruit of the tree of life. This piece is a tribute to Moses Hindoian, a humble man of vision and purpose, to whom I owe my faith.”
