“Source scriptures are found in Isaiah 53:6 and Mosiah 14:6: ‘All we, like sheep, have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way.’ The center of the sculpture represents the light and truth of the gospel of Christ. The extended walnut pieces symbolize temptations and worldly philosophies that lead sheep and people astray. Out of ignorance, weakness, or rebelliousness, many choose to leave the peace and safety of the gospel to pursue their own way. Posts, barricades, and signs represent the commandments of God and the teachings of prophets. Despite these warnings, the sheep proceed on slippery, twisting, and dangerous paths. Although from the perspective of the sheep, these paths look harmless or perhaps adventurous, they are ultimately dead ends. Lasting happiness and peace come by returning to the fold, which some of the sheep have started to do.”
