"After three members of my immediate family died within six months, and then a year later an infant grandson also died, our family was left reeling from the losses. We felt heavy laden and were deeply affected. I wanted to paint something that expressed the comfort that Christ promises to those with heavy hearts. The image of a large white peony, bent close to the ground under the weight of drops of water, came to mind. The colors are solemn, but the flower is white to represent the light. There is comfort extended by the arms of Christ to bring that light through the darkness to us."
