"A vase holds flowers and fruit, each of which holds a memory. The roses come from my garden, and the poppies come from a neighbor’s. My mother always grew poppies; I can still see that vibrant red. The peace rose is the focus in the painting—a personal desire for peace on earth. The grapes are the hope for new life—they grow in the spring and lead to the sweet smell of harvest in the fall. The magnolias and the bird’s nest are from our wonderful time in Camarillo, California. We had jasmine in our yard—what a joy to walk and smell the fragrance! What memories! These are memories of gifts we can have on earth—flowers significant of a moment or time and the harvest of what we have sown."
