"This painting depicts Joseph Smith in the field, telling his father of the visit and message of the angel Moroni in September 1823. Lucy Mack Smith recorded that Joseph was initially reluctant to tell his father, but at the command of Moroni—who declared that “he will believe every word”—Joseph went to tell his father. His father was willing to set down the tools and the pressures of the day and listen. And he did believe."
