"In obedience to God’s command, Abraham showed that he was willing to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice. In the Book of Mormon, Jacob taught that Abraham’s offering was 'a similitude of God and his Only Begotten Son' (Jacob 4:5). God the Father was willing to offer His Son as a Savior for all mankind, the greatest gift of all. In this relief, I have tried to capture the suffering of a father offering his son as a sacrifice, as well as the son’s willingness to be offered in righteousness. Abraham, Isaac, and the angel are depicted, but the image is also a symbol of God’s sacrifice of Jesus Christ."
