"The Hubble Space Telescope beamed back pictures of the Orion Nebula. As a young girl at camp, I remember stargazing and learning the names of the constellations. Orion was a favorite. I was spellbound to see the picture of this old friend in its wondrous, glowing essence. Gathering batik fabrics became a joy as I created beautiful hand-dyed pieces of cloth. I spent days cutting and laying these pieces together to symbolize this constellation. I pondered the matter and science I would never understand, and I marveled at the greatness of the Master’s hand that controls and creates it. When Orion is seen through the powerful lens of the Hubble Space Telescope, instead of just tiny sparkling stars, there appears a swirling gorgeous display. This quilt reminds me that beyond my vision are endless eternities of glorious color and light."
