"This is a portrait of an extraordinary young man, Hudson Duncan, whose quiet strength, mature spirituality, and faith remind me of one of Helaman’s stripling warriors. Hudson became the priesthood leader in his home while his father was deployed to Iraq for 12 months. Though Hudson was only 17 at the time, he took his priesthood responsibilities very seriously, even going home teaching alone when his senior companion was unavailable. I have observed his devotion to the gospel as he and my son have blessed the sacrament and taken it to the shut-ins in our ward. I tried to capture his reverence and love for the Savior in this portrait and thought often, as I painted, of the prophecies about the Lamanites recorded in the Book of Mormon. Hudson is now serving a mission in San Jose, California."
