"This quilt was designed to illustrate the thirteen Articles of Faith of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The center block (except for the basket) and the borders are original designs, and each block contains many symbols and drawings important to the owners of the quilt—the Schimmelbusch family. The dogs represent fidelity. The anchor represents salvation. The flags on the ship represent the country from which the family’s ancestors immigrated. Each dimensional element represents man’s duty to God. In the center block, a nest denotes the impending birth of a new baby into the family, and the temple on the left side of the quilt is the original Nauvoo Temple.
