Seeing Jesus walking on water, Peter said, “Bid me come unto thee.” Stepping off the ship, Peter walked as Jesus walked, but overcome with fear and doubt, he sank and cried out, “Lord, save me” (Matthew 14:28, 30). Habben portrays Peter’s first vulnerable step, capturing the hesitation, fear, struggle, and hope that exist as we strive to fully trust the Savior. The square and circle under the water represent the temporal world, seen by Peter, and the eternal heavens that the Savior could see.
