Russell has envisioned a moment in Christ’s childhood. The boy Jesus stands by the town well in the midst of a crowd, and only He notices with compassion the distress of a weeping man burdened by troubles. Even at a young age, the scriptures note, Jesus “spake not as other men, neither could he be taught; for he needed not that any man should teach him” (Joseph Smith Translation, Matthew 3:25). In this work, Russell captures the Savior’s unique capacity to understand and lift our burdens.
