All representations of divinity fail in that they are made of terrestrial materials and seen through mortal eyes. Modeled out of fabric, dirt, paint, and photography, they are unable to capture what the Prophet Joseph Smith described as the “brightness and glory [that] defy all description” (Joseph Smith—History 1:17). Reflecting on our mortal and incomplete understanding of the Atonement, Frahm’s photograph depicts a blurred image of the Savior, with a cross standing out as a symbol of His sacrifice.
