During a visit to a cabin, Edwards found three dead birds and photographed them in his wife’s hands—thinking of the intimate ways in which God is aware of His children. Fragile and small, the birds function as a metaphor for the ways we are carried and known by our Savior even in our suffering: “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (Matthew 6:26).
