As Christians, we celebrate the birth of the Savior into this mortal world and we reverence His death and triumphant Resurrection: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Wood’s altar-like piece depicts the wonder and awe of the gift of the Atonement and marks the life of Christ in three stages.
