Tracing the ten known generations of women in her matriarchal line, Atkisson de Moura’s images refer to landscapes where ancestors lived, stories and objects they mentioned in journals and histories, and their work and families. The artist also depicts herself in watercolor looking both forward and back in time. Atkisson de Moura creates a dialogue with the tradition of tracing the genealogies of important figures by portraying generations of women who have shaped her beliefs and sense of herself.
