“Who is my neighbour?” a lawyer asked Jesus, prompting the parable of the good Samaritan. We are neighbors to those to whom we show love and mercy, the Savior taught, outside of assignment and delineated boundaries of community. Ungricht uses traditional cross-stitch band samplers to retell this parable. The border, which imitates a Roman tile twisted rope pattern, refers to the treacherous road from Jerusalem to Jericho. The people at the bottom remind us that we can all be good Samaritans.
