Parables were often used by Christ as a language with which to teach His followers profound truths about the gospel. Layering images from 23 parables, Somerville uses a fig tree as a central unifier because of its repeated use throughout the scriptures, hoping that the painting will “inspire a deep connection to our Messiah's teachings. Too often we pass over the parables in familiarity and do not fully absorb the power contained within,” said Somerville.
