Sanded layers of pages from the National Geographic magazine provide a foundation for a framework of geometric and organic lines, creating a rich texture for Squires’s portrayal of the Last Supper. Borrowing from The Last Supper mural by Leonardo da Vinci and the pointed arches of Gothic cathedrals, Squires’s layering suggests that our understanding of Christ comes line upon line, layered upon understanding provided by those who have gone before us.
