The suffering Christ is depicted here unclothed, vulnerable, and wrapped in the chains that led to His Crucifixion. Set to die for the sins of all humanity, He was, as Isaiah described, ”despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3). Now, as the resurrected Christ, He looks upon us with love, and each day, despite our weaknesses and sins, His merciful arms are stretched out to save and bless us.
