Drawing on her family history, Hatch paints the story of her ancestor Orin Hatch, who fell ill while marching with the Mormon Battalion. Ordered to leave him behind, his brother Meltiar and friends returned at night to carry him to join the soldiers. On the third night, the exhausted Meltiar returned alone, unaware of how his brother would catch up. He was blessed to find two Native Americans who had brought Orin to him on horseback.
