Close has painted a tangled, dark setting full of deep grasses and snarled weeds. But these spaces are cut through by the Savior, illuminated by the angel who comforted Him when He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane. The Apostles, unaware of the Savior’s sacrifice, slumber in the background. Close comments, "We all slumber when we feel that the [Savior’s] Atonement doesn’t apply to us."
"I know that we gather ourselves together in all our glorious uniqueness when we try to understand His love for us."
