Beacon of Hope

Wrapped in a red robe symbolic of Christ’s Atonement, and with a small child hanging on to her skirts, a woman holds out a warm lantern that cuts through dark skies and turbulent waters. Garner was inspired by the hymn “Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy” and the lyrics “send a gleam across the wave. Some poor fainting, struggling seaman you may rescue, you may save.” Garner comments that the figure “chooses to stay firmly planted on the rock of her Redeemer, valiantly holding up the light of Christ to shine truth and hope for everyone in her sphere of influence to see.”
