The evangelist Mark describes crowds of people who, when they heard Christ was near their homes, brought those who were sick to the streets so the sick might reach out to Christ to be made whole. Dall has painted those crowds, each individual with hands that yearn for Christ’s healing touch. The Savior reaches back to the multitude. “Yet he perceives the one,” Dall notes: “the viewer.” Dall reminds the viewer, as one of the beseeching crowd, that He seeks to heal his or her wounds, too.
“Whether it be physical illness or troubled hearts and minds, we can, through Jesus Christ, be made whole.”
