Sorensen, who lost her husband, Sam, created this piece to honor those who helped her process her grief. The center is a self-portrait as she sits, comforted by the Spirit. In the top left, a friend stops by to leave a note on her door. The panel opposite, on the bottom right, shows one of many youth who served her—here mowing her lawn. From the top right, Sorensen’s second husband, John, reaches his hand toward her own hand in the bottom left, extending amid notes of love and condolence.
“The top panel is the sun shining through clouds, symbolizing hope.”
