O Astro das Trevas

At the center of the piece is a dark star, a representation of one of the oldest things in the universe. Surrounding this star are religious symbols of of creation—strong lines reminding the viewer of the divide between light and darkness; garden imagery including fruits; figures in the garden that remind the viewer that in the beginning, Adam and Eve walked and talked with God. As de Faria paints, he contemplates and tries to express his feelings to capture the beauty and energy of God’s creation.
