Campbell’s work illustrates a timeline that reads from left to right. The threads from the base of the piece to the top represent one’s connection to Deity. Early in life, Campbell believes, an individual feels confident in his or her connection above. But at some point, she notes, earthly trials combine to interrupt that confidence, like a great hand that interrupts the pattern. However, as one seeks to be reattached to God, making effort to tie knots and reinforce one’s testimony, the result is thicker and more profound connections to the heavens.
“Always there is a process of the heavens reaching down to assure us with strength that we are being clasped tightly and being pulled upwards.”
