Inspired by these lines from Walt Whitman’s poem “Miracles”—“To me every hour of the light and dark is a miracle, every cubic inch of space is a miracle”—Garns paints a family focused on one small storyteller in a mundane and magical space. The title references the 2020 pandemic, when many busy families were required to be at home and found family support in a time of global anxiety.
“When knees are week and hands hang down, the consistent rhythms of family life are a meaningful source of comfort and strength.”
