The evangelist Mark describes people who brought their children to Jesus to be blessed while He was teaching in Perea. After telling His disciples to allow the children to come to Him, He “took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them” (Mark 10:16). Kunz paints the Savior holding a small child, who looks at the viewer as she lays her head on His chest. The child’s gaze displays the safety and comfort she feels in Christ’s arms. A surrounding crowd reacts with delight.
“This brief account from the New Testament helps us understand something great and essential about the nature of our God: how He loves little children and wants to bless them.”
