Christ locks eyes with a woman who was thrust before Him while Pharisees demanded judgment. Parson imagines that Christ wrote the words “judge not” in Hebrew on the ground, after which the Pharisees disappear. Only Christ and the woman are left as He lifts her up. The hand on the woman’s back conveys great gentleness as Christ encourages her to “go, and sin no more” (John 8:11).
“He is willing to lift us up and asks us to repent of our sins.”
