Nephi, a Book of Mormon prophet, saw a vision of a tree. When he asked what the tree meant, he was informed it was the love of God, evidenced in Christ, who condescended to have a mortal life, was born to the virgin Mary, and was offered for the sins of the world. Qureshi draws on his Pakistani heritage to portray this story in Diwani script. Within the depicted tree, we see the form of Mary, her hair made from scripture verses that describe her important role (1 Nephi 11:18, 20–21). The infant Savior is composed from words declaring Him “the Lamb of God, . . . the Son of the Eternal Father” (1 Nephi 11:21). The leafy halo surrounding Mary and child describes Nephi’s understanding of the scene: “It is the love of God, which sheddeth itself abroad in the hearts of the children of men; wherefore, it is the most desirable above all things” (1 Nephi 11:22).
