A figure stretches high, one hand supporting the other as it strains upward. A transparent hand reaches down to meet that reaching. Inspired by scriptural injunctions to lift up one’s heart, Salins reflects that sometimes being happy is a choice to take care of oneself. Salins cites Jeremiah’s poetic call, “Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens” (Lamentations 3:41).
“God wants us to learn how to lift our arms up, and not only our arms, but our hearts.”
