Remembering times when she accompanied her own mother as she tended to an ill neighbor, Tillery paints an allegorical scene where a mother has collapsed by the side of a road. Her small children crouch anxiously and are eager to receive the attentions of another woman and her son. While the story doesn’t reference a specific scriptural scene, Tillery ponders how the young Savior might have learned kindness ministering alongside His mother.
“As [Christ] ‘waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom’ (Luke 2:40), the needs of the outcast, the stranger, of all those whose hands hang down were ever present in His thoughts and actions.”
