Two oxen stand together, a yoke connecting them. One ox has fallen, his dirty legs having given out beneath him. The other ox looks gently at his fellow, waiting patiently while his partner rests. In Matthew 11:28–30, Christ invites individuals who feel “heavy laden” to “take my yoke upon you.” In this image, the fallen ox represents humanity while the standing ox represents the Savior.
“He walks with us, and when we are too weary to walk, He waits.”
