After his friends tell him of their successful missions to the Lamanites, the Book of Mormon prophet Alma yearns, “O that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God!” (Alma 29:1). But Alma proves an effective missionary, even without an angelic trumpet. Walker creates a pair of wings, a symbol of Alma’s desires and the eventual fulfillment of his desire as he passed on to the next life.
“There are . . . angels on this side of the veil, reaching out to complete the same missions while in mortality—no wings needed.”
