James Porteous Sr.
The Porteous family arrived in New Orleans on 20 November 1848 via the ship Sailor Prince. There were two parents and four children on the ship. At the time of the overland journey, the Deseret News roster indicates he was traveling with only two people, indicating some of them died or did not continue for some reason.
The family's surname is "Porters" on the Deseret News roster.
