Elizabeth Goodson
The Spiers family began their overland journey as part of the Outhouse Company. However, the Outhouse Company experienced divisiveness and for much of the way, each ten in the company traveled independently. William Lang was captain of the ten they split off with.
Outhouse Company records show John Spiers as head of household, whose traveling group consisted of two adults and three children. The Lang Company records identify the individuals in his group as his wife and daughter and two other children, Jesse Cook and Elizabeth Goodson. It is uncertain what Elizabeth's relationship was with the Spiers family. However, in John Spiers' reminiscence and journal, before they left England, he mentions "a little girl" that he and his wife had brought from Norwich to help take care of their newborn baby. Again, in his journal, while they are on the steamboat traveling up the Missouri River to St. Joseph, he mentions the "little nurse girl" who is with his family. This was likely Elizabeth.
