  • James emigrated from Scotland in 1853. He left his young bride, Margaret Irvine, who was pregnant with their first child, with her family, and headed for Zion to prepare for their arrival. Margaret, with one year old son John, and her parents and siblings, came in 1855.  He sailed on the Falcon and arrived in New Orleans on 18 May 1853. His surname also appears as "Letham" or "Latham" in some sources.
