  • His obituary states the following:  "Born in Roanoke county, Virginia, Mr. Soule at the age of 24 years [about 1860] joined one of the companies which set out for the gold fields of California.  The company broke up when it reached Utah and Mrs. Soule decided to make his home in this state.  In 1851 he joined the Mormon church taking up his residence at Hooper six years later. . . . "

    His name appears on the 1860 Utah census,  taken 21 June 1860, prior to the arrival of that season's emigration, which means that he would have arrived in Utah by 1859.  Further research is needed to confirm the year of his arrival.

    According to the tithing records, he lived in Farmington in 1866.
