  • She crossed the Atlantic on the ship International in 1853 under the name Elizabeth Waugh with her mother (Elizabeth Waugh McCord) and grandfather (George Peden Waugh).  On the ship manifest the entry for her mother the surname McCord is crossed out.  On the original roster of the Gates company both mother and daughter are listed with the surname Waugh yet the obituary of this Elizabeth identifies her as "Elizabeth Wallace, daughter of William McCord and Elizabeth Waugh."
