  • He began with Eldredge's company, but probably left the company on 14 July when James Brown moved ahead with part of the group. Biographical information in his obituary and the LDS Biographical Encyclopedia all state that he traveled with Eldredge.

    James sailed to America in 1850 on the ship Hartley.
