  • He and his sister were traveling with their father, Jens Hansen, who was a widower. The family arrived in New York on 16 July 1866 via the ship Humboldt. Although the children's names are not listed directly on the overland company roster, the record shows that their father purchased two adult food rations, which indicates that both his children continued with him on this portion of the journey as well.
