  • David and his family emigrated from Australia to San Francisco on the Albert. As of current, the Mormon Migration database only lists "Milne" and "Joseph D. Spencer" as traveling on the ship. A biography of the son, Alexander, confirmed the name of the ship and the dates of travel. The family arrived in Utah in August 1866. David Milne purchased a wagon and horses from W. Orrin Smith (who took financial advantage of David Milne) and eventually made their way to Utah.

As noted by two letters written by David to Brigham Young, Hannah Howell (a widow and mother of Sarah McKnight) traveled with David and his family. Due to various circumstances, he took Hannah under his care and saw her safely to Utah.

Letters also indicate that one of David's brother traveled with them. It has yet to be determined which of his brother's traveled with him. It was probably his youngest brother, Charles. It appears as if his brother never joined the Church, however, if the identity of the brother can be determined, his profile will be properly updated in the database.

David was rebaptized in Salt Lake City on 4 Oct. 1866 according to information in the 13th Ward record of members.
