  • Crossed the Atlantic with his family, arriving in New Orleans on 31 March 1853 via the ship Elvira Owen. Some of his family remained in New Orleans. Charles traveled ahead, his sister Mary following him a year later. First documentation to place Charles in Utah is a rebaptism in the Nephi Ward on 26 February 1854, which was prior to that year's emigration season. He was the son of James and Mary Butterworth Morris. Further research is needed to identify the specific company he traveled with.
