  • Mary and her son, James, arrived in New York on 5 July 1866 via the ship American Congress. (Her name is "Elizabeth" on the ship passenger list.) On overland company records, only her name is listed as head of household. However, the notation showing she purchased 1 1/2 adult food rations indicates that her young son was with her during this part of the journey as well.
