  • William was from Scotland and crossed the Atlantic on the ship Sailor Prince in 1848.  His name first appears in the records of the Utah Territorial Militia on 18 June 1850 at Salt Lake City.  At the time of the 1850 federal census (early 1851) he was living in Davis County (his surname is spelled "Neash" in the census.)  He was re-baptized on 28 December 1851 and was living in the Salt Lake City 1st Ward in 1852.  He married Isabella Henderson on January 1852 and at the time of the 1856 Utah Territorial census he was living at Cedar City with his wife, a daughter (Margaret) and a son (William Jr.)  By the time of the 1860 federal census William and his family were living in San Bernardino, California.  This is where he is buried.
