  • Son of Bodil and Lars Madsen. His father died while en route to Utah. Lars's obituary states that he came to Utah "while a mere lad, crossing the plains in Captain Higan's Company," but he actually traveled in the 1856 William B. Hodgetts Company.

    The family sailed to America in 1856 on the ship Thornton.
