  • John came from England in 1857 on the ship George Washington.  He came again in 1864 with his wife Elizabeth, children Thomas, John C., Miranda, Mary Ann, Joseph and Heber  on the ship Monarch of the Sea.

He married Martha Thorpe in 1857 in Salt Lake. She appears on the 1857 George Washington ship manifest, as does John, but we have not been able to determine the name of the company she came to Utah with. She now appears on the 1857 Unidentified Companies list. Further research is needed to determine the name of the company she traveled with.
