  • The obituary of his granddaughter, Maria Elizabeth Hess, incorrectly states that her crippled grandfather, Joachim Dietschweiler, crossed the plains by handcart in 1860; actually he traveled with the William Budge Wagon Company of this same year.  His surname is "Dietchwyler" and "Diethelm" on the various rosters.
