James was rebaptized in Salt Lake City on 9 October 1851. His name does not appear on the 1850 Utah census, so it is likely that he arrived in 1851. Further research is needed to confirm the year of his arrival and the name of the pioneer company with which he traveled to Utah.
His rebaptism record in the Salt Lake Stake Record of Members shows his name as "James Lithin," and his birthplace as Millston Stockston, England. The Early Church Information File shows also shows his rebaptism and the same place of his birth, but his surname is shown as "Lithen."
No other primary source provides further information regarding him.
