  • Horace Eaton and his family traveled to the Salt Lake Valley in the John D. Chase Company in 1864.  Horace’s family included his wife, Almira Mead, and their children Granville, Sarah Jane, Fred B., and Horace James, who was born en route on 8 September.

The birth year 1873 as listed on his death certificate is erroneous, seeing as he was definitely present in the company in 1864. His gravestone claims his estimated year of birth was 1864. It is likely that his actual birth date occurred in 1863, instead of 1873.
